For OFDM-based systems, many algorithms and techniques have been proposed for each baseband functionality like synchronization and channel estimation. Do practical systems like mobiles employ only one of those techniques for each functionality or adaptively switches between a set of algorithms on the basis of performance metrics?

  • $\begingroup$ They combine them, switch between them, only do one of them... There's thousands of different ofdm implementations and we can look into the least of them! Every wifi device, every LTE phone, every digital TV receiver (outside the US) and a lot of other systems use ofdm, and the way they implement that not only depends on technical aspects, but also patents and having or not having to license them. $\endgroup$
