So I have an antennae array with only three elements. I want to know what kind of beamforming and AoA estimation I can do with such a small number of elements.
I understand that there are lots of different approaches, eg. MUSIC, simply TDOA, ESPIRT etc, but I don't know how well they work when the number of elements is small. I think this problem is pretty common in the industry, so I'd like to get some feedback and learn from the community's experience with this type of problem.
Given such a small number of elements, what kinds of beamforming and AoA estimation procedures would be most appropriate/accurate?
- Each element has a pretty standard cardioid pattern.
- Their mainlobes overlap overlap such that the sum of their responses is close to unity.
