As I know, the magnitude spectrum and power spectrum have the same information in this step before applying Mel-Filterbank, and the power spectrum may work slightly better in noise. However, I don't have any reliable reference about the difference between them in MFCCs.
Why many references prefer to use power spectrum over the magnitude spectrum?
