Say I have response of a band pass $\left(f_1-f_2\right)$ or a lowpass filter $\left(0-f\right)$ and if I want to estimate filter length then I may take the inverse transform of the frequency response of band-pass and low-pass filter.

  • For band-pass should I zeropad the spectrum at center and take IFFT?

  • For lowpass, should the spectrum be mirrored and IFFT taken?

  • If windowing is applied it should be applied before zeropadding the spectrum to get smooth response?
