I am trying to figure out how I can detect the pitch of 20 musical notes from a flute signal. I used the YIN algorithm, CEPSTRUM, SWIPE but they don't seem to detect but one note. Then I tried to change min_F0 and max_F0 values for each of the algorithms, but it didn't work. I've read some articles claiming that for musical notes, there are other algorithms such as MUSIC and ESPRIT that deal better with musical notes. I wanted to enquire about whether I can adapt the algorithms I mentioned for this type of pitch detection.

  • $\begingroup$ i have a little bit of an answer to the general problem of pitch detection here with a little extra here. YIN is based sorta on both autocorrelation and AMDF, and there is one extral little "trick" in YIN that i do not consider particularly useful for anything. (not a fan of YIN.) $\endgroup$ – robert bristow-johnson Nov 8 at 15:05
